Sticks and Stones

Sticks and stones may break my bones,
but words have the power to kill.
The broken bones will heal,
the scars left by words will not.

Think before you speak.
Your racist comments,
your homophobic slurs,
or just plain verbal abuse,
could kill someone tonight.

You see that boy you torment for being gay?
He could be planning to commit suicide because of you.
You see that girl over there?
The one you torment for being too shy?
She's a great person,
and you would know that if you got to know her,
instead you bully her.

Start to think,
you don't want to be responsible for a death,
but if you bully you quite possibly will be,
just thinking before you speak,
could save many lives,
so think before you speak,
and you could save a life tonight.
